《Eclosion》

In our civil law, you' ll be recognised as an adult when you reach twenty years of age. At the same time, we undergo tremendous physical and psychological changes around this age. That is why maturity lies at the heart of this group project. Through an introspection of their life thus far, our participants explore what it means to be an adult. This project is more than simple documentation of their early tastes of maturity. We hope they could investigate who they want to be by looking into who they are.

Eclosion is a beetle breaking free from its cocoon. It is also a spiritual ascendancy, breaking free from the trappings of our teenage selves.

《Fangyuan》

Howard Hsiao

Time bears resemblance to wheels, both rolling forward without hesitation; still, it might be conceivable for a rim to elegantly whiz along whilst retaining its pristine geometric form, every interruption on the timeline of life, however luminous, obscure, mundane, or eerie, all inevitably etch marks upon the soul. An exposure compresses time onto the two-dimensionals, with human forms stretching into spectre-like beings; is this a departure from reality? Or, these mystified images are instead more of an accurate representation of the sensory experience of the ambiguity of growth?

Xuan Cheng Chen

《In between coming-of-age》

Tseng Lin

Between reality and illusion, backwardness and advancement, I am caught in an interlude, unable to go back in time while forced to proceed into the future. Thus I resort to strolling within the contexts you have defined for me, also in an attempt to evade the standards others have so firmly believed in.

I close my eyes, though the symbolic violence remains within vision. Ill-structured thoughts linger on between dreams and sobriety, for however long the privilege of freedom persists, there are no rationality and sensations, nor are there actuality and fantasies. Simply allow the seemingly mundane to re-emerge and materialize through the assessment of consistent critiques.

Steven Ang

There's no leaving that's not too soon.

One person's absence marks the lost of multiple roles,

you were a parent, a husband, a brother, and also an uncle.

I cannot replace you, I cannot be you.

But in my dearest hope, I wish to continue down this path that you left early.

And this untied knot, is the sincerest proof, to this early adulthood.

《Watery ages》

Eric Tsai

The world throws open its gate when we cross the threshold of maturity. Souls came into one another and mingled. Some departed for good. Through these encounters we're coloured by others. My murky vessels might even steal away my own taint free impression. So I set forth in search of my tabula rasa.

“Colourless and odorless, water fills our life, but we hardly notice it. It can gently caress you in hillside creeks or engulf you in a surging tide. This malleability comes at a cost for its identity is not fixed. Its shape changes in different containers and things are pulled in as it flows. Where the sun doesn't shine, solid it'll be. When the sun is up high, formless it shall be. It's nature, change! “

《Coffee》

Tseng C. Chih-yen

A cup of coffee in the morning implies that I am responsible for being sober. The older you are, the less you can feel the bitterness of coffee. I carried a pot of hot water to myself as a countermeasure for survival. Directly, flush away all the remaining odors, and become a better person.

Elaine Huang
